parking

we saved you a spot!

Welcome! As Somerville has grown over the last several years, we have been working hard to develop a comprehensive strategy to implement a parking system that will better serve the diverse needs of people parking in the downtown area.

By providing a range of pricing and offering additional monthly pass options, we are providing more choices for you. The result will be greater convenience for our visitors, more available parking when we need it, and less meter-feeding.

There are 4 primary municipal parking lots located within the downtown core and ample on-street parking located throughout the downtown.

The best parking choice for you depends on how long you plan to visit with us.

  • 1 - 2 Hours - If you are here for only a short visit.
    • Park on the street using one of our convenient meters. All of our on-street meters allow customers to pay with coins or credit card. If you are paying with coins, the on-street meters will allow you to pay for as little as 3 minutes with a nickel, a dime for 6 minutes or a quarter for 15 minutes. This is perfect if you are dropping off dry-cleaning, picking up a prescription or need a quick cup of coffee or tea!
    • Lot 4 is our most centrally located municipal lot and offers short term parking in the heart of the downtown. Lot 4 uses a multi-space pay station and accepts coins, bills or credit cards with a 1 hour minimum.
    • If you pay by credit card, there is always a 1 hour minimum no matter the location.
    • All street meters and Lot 4 offer a maximum of two hours.
    • Street meters and Lot 4 are enforced Monday-Saturday from 9am to 8pm.
    • Rate: $1.00 per hour.

  • More than 2 hours – If you want to stay with us for a while.
    • Park in one of our municipal parking lots that can accommodate your extended parking needs. All municipal lots have multi-space pay stations that accept coins, bills or credit cards with a 1 hour minimum. You must pay for your entire visit before leaving the lot.
    • Park in one of our municipal parking lots that can accommodate your extended parking needs. All municipal lots have multi-space pay stations that accept coins, bills or credit cards with a 1 hour minimum. You must pay for your entire visit before leaving the lot.
    • Lots 1, 2 and 6 are enforced Monday-Saturday from 9am to 8pm
    • Rates are $.75/hour.

  • All Day Parking
    • Lot 7 is our most economical choice. Primarily intended for use by employees of the Downtown, Lot 7 is located just at the edge of the downtown core. This lot utilizes a multi-space pay station that accepts coins, bills or credit cards with a 1 hour minimum. You must pay for your entire visit before leaving the lot.
    • Lot 7 is enforced Monday-Friday from 9am to 8pm.
    • Rates: $.50/hour.

  • Parking Permit
    • If you are a resident or employee seeking a long term parking option, the Borough of Somerville has parking permits available for use in Lot1A on High Street. Permits are available quarterly, bi-annually or annually. For more information please contact Project Manager, Michael Halperin at 908.725.2300, ext. 1958 or visit Somerville Borough Hall Monday-Friday from 8:30am-4:30pm.
